I don’t ever want to limit myself to just the standard short-film format; I love telling stories cinematically, & while they may not be structured in a way that works for a festival or cinema screening, that doesn’t decrease my love for these types of free-flowing short-form personal pieces any less.
Storytelling
Reuniting with my Best Friend 10 Years Later
I knew I wanted to tell this story through film for years before Derry & I had even begun to officially plan our reunion. I always pictured the way I would frame it all, from the first time we saw each other again until the last. Granted, it didn’t all go exactly according to plan, but I ended up enjoying that outcome even more. This wasn’t the kind of thing I had to set aside time to storyboard; instead, I could let the days go by & just wait to see what happened. Looking back on all the footage at the end & crafting our story around each clip was one of the most time-consuming yet delightful things I’ve ever taken on in the world of videography. This piece remains now, & always will be, one of my absolute personal favorites.
Thank You for Loving Me
This probably goes without saying, but Thank You for Loving Me was a very meaningful personal project & one that I hold very close to my heart. It reflects on a very different time in my life when I was struggling to find a bright side & feel okay with being myself, & it means a lot to me to be able to look back on how far I’ve grown. This visual diary leans more toward the kind of content I find fun to make on the side of my more professional-looking shorts and media, & is also incredibly cathartic as you can imagine! I had the privilege of seeing this work published in the 15th issue of USC Dornsife’s 15th Palaver Arts Magazine following competitive submission.
